Instructions
- 1
Prepare the marinade. In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, grated pear (or apple), minced garlic, sugar, and sesame oil. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- 2
Prepare the beef and vegetables. Ensure the beef is very thinly sliced. If you bought a block, you can freeze it for about an hour to make it easier to slice. Thinly slice the onion.
- 3
Combine the sliced beef and onion in the bowl with the marinade. Use your hands to gently massage the marinade into the meat, ensuring every piece is well-coated.
- 4
Cover the bowl and let the beef marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. For a more intense flavor, marinate for 2-3 hours or even overnight.
- 5
Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. You want it hot enough to get a good sear on the meat.
- 6
Cook the marinated beef in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan. This ensures the meat grills rather than steams. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until it's beautifully caramelized and cooked through.
- 7
Once all the beef is cooked, transfer it to a serving platter.
- 8
Garnish generously with toasted sesame seeds and freshly chopped green onions before serving.
- 9
Serve hot with steamed rice and your favorite banchan (side dishes).
